What is Temple Camp?

What is Temple camp?

Temple Camp is a monthly family event held at a temple in Fremont, led by ParthaJi and RamaaJi. This event provides a unique opportunity for families, children, and devotees to come together for an hour of devotional activities, centered around the recitation of slokas. Here’s a detailed overview:

The Purpose

The main objective of Temple Camp is to cultivate a habit of regular temple visits and prayer among participants. By engaging in this practice, participants—especially children—are encouraged to develop a spiritual routine that can bring them inner peace and a sense of community as they grow.

Activities

Sloka Recitation: The core activity of Temple Camp is the recitation of Hindu slokas. Students who have learned these verses recite them together with ParthaJi in front of the temple deity and priests. This collective recitation fosters a sense of unity and devotion.

Participation and Inclusion: While the recitation is led by those who know the slokas, everyone is welcome to join, including parents and individuals who may not know the slokas. These participants can listen and immerse themselves in the spiritual atmosphere.

Schedule and duration

Temple Camp is held on the second Saturday of every month, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This consistent schedule helps families plan their visits and integrate the event into their monthly routines.

Community and Fellowship

Welcoming Environment: Temple Camp is open to all, creating an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their familiarity with the slokas, can feel welcome and participate.

Prasad Distribution: At the end of the recital, temple Prasad (a blessed offering of food) is distributed to all attendees. This tradition not only provides a physical nourishment but also symbolizes the sharing of blessings and community spirit.

Long-Term Benefits

By attending Temple Camp regularly, participants—especially young children—are likely to:

                      -  Develop a strong spiritual foundation.
                      -  Foster a habit of regular temple visits and prayer.
                      -  Experience the calming and centering effects of spiritual practices.

Great way to practice mindfulness with kids

My daughter (age 5) recently attended the monthly temple camp field trip and loved it! The program is excellent, helping kids to recite shlokas before a temple audience and practice mindfulness in a community setting. We are grateful to Parthaji and Ramaaji for fostering such a welcoming environment. Highly recommend for any parent looking to enrich their child’s cultural and spiritual education. Thank you Vedanta Peetham for this wonderful initiative!
